It Gets Better

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax96cghOnY4

I truly believe that homophobic bullying is one of the most pressing topics in our country right now. I sincerely hope it gets better. Please please show your support for this in any way you know how. Even if it’s as little as vowing not to be discriminatory in words or actions, that could save a life.

A Delicate Balance

We were indeed a delicate balance, and now we’re shattered glass vase. A pristine example of what can happen when you put too much faith in a dream…

Tha’ts a bit from a longer piece I wrote a while back. I’m not entirely sure what it means, but I really like the way it sounds.

There Are Many People

There are many people, but no one is talking. There are many people, but no one is walking. There are many people, but no one cares. We all live within ourselves, not bothering to come up for air. There are many people, but no one is.

Absolution

The “WII: Sports” menu is mezmorizing. The globe keeps spinning and I realize we’re twirling, whirling in space at ungodly speeds, maybe- hopefully- ending up a better planet, a better place. But, we’re really only completing a cycle that was planned out years before we were even concieved. It’s almost a comforting feeling, that we’re following something so consice. At the same time, though, it’s ridiculously limiting. It’s as if you’re spending your whole life waiting for an absolution that will never come.

I still don’t know where I was going with this when I wrote it, but I’ve been assured it’s not as bad as I think it is.

Story Beginnings

So there I was, walking down a path in the most beautiful forest I have ever seen. I guess it was Fall because there were leaves of all hues littering the path. I was just walking, all alone and very peacefully. I could hear the soft hum of a waterfall somewhere in the distance. Squirrels scampered around the trees, evidently looking for nuts or the discarded food of picnic-goers. Through the canopy of trees I could see light pouring in, illuminating what was to come. I kept walking until, after finding the waterfall surrounded by beautiful rocks and plants, the once abundant sun turned into a threatening pour of moonlight, The sound of the far away waterfall became increasingly eerie as animals and birds all turned silent, watching me. My slow strut became a quick jog, the fallen branches of the trees that I could swear were laughing at me crunched under my feet, mocking my fear.  I ran faster looking for something, what I dont know, I guess not one of the several paths out of the wood. But, whatever it was, I apparently never found….

One of my hundreds of beginnings to stories that will probably never be completed. I just don’t know how to go on… *sigh. I’m a Writers’ Block Magnent…

What Is Truth?

Truth. I used to think that it was a pretty solid word, then I found out otherwise.

I Googled the word today,  and about 32, 500, 000 results came up. I’m not even going to pretend that I looked at them all, but I did sift through quite a number of them. Well, five pages, but it took a while. In those five pages, there were political ads, religious beliefs, books, bands, quotes, software and businesses, magazines, blogs, definitions, games, interviews, related searches, and guides. Confused, I set off on a quest to discover: what is the truth, if there is indeed such a thing?

Merriam-Webster says that truth is  fidelity, consistency; sincerity in action, character, and utterance. I have no idea what utterance is, but that seemed like a fairly good definition to me. But, wait, there was more- much more! It went on to say that truth is the state of being the case; fact. The body of real things, events, and facts: actuality. Now theres a word for you, actuality. Well, of course, it made the link to “Christian Science” now, there is when it really set in that truth is actually very controversial. But, I didnt let that stop me on my way to the realizing truth (no pun intended). I went back to the main page of Google with hope that there would surely be more solid cases of what the truth is.

I found out that if you want people to think you have “it” whatever “it” may be, you need to say that you are telling the truth. Like Jesus. He always said “truly I say to you…” Maybe thats incredibly irrelevant, but it just stood out to me when I was on my quest.

Well, I’ve been writing this over the course of about three days and I still dont know what truth is. Maybe it’s one of those things that can never been pinned down. To some extent, I feel like a bad blogger for leaving you all (all two of you who faithfully read this) hanging. But, I simply have no idea. I think that possibly Im having my mid-life crisis. I dont know, but if any of you know what the truth is, can you let me know?

Hiaku(s?)

♥ I’ve been exploring the art of haiku (plural: haikus?)  recently. At first I thought they would be like sonnets, kinda limiting because of the strict form, but as it turns out, you can pretty much express anything in 5, 7, and 5 again syllables! Now, whether anything sounds good or not is pretty debatable, my first few were just for practice, and they sucked, but I guess thats the cool thing, they’re so short, they can suck and it’s almost okay and bearable. As an added bonus, you can write a haiku about anything, but also anywhere-you just have to get struck by inspiration! One of my initial crappy haiku(s?) was about a kid that lives on my street named Josh. A rumor was spread last year that “Josh Neal” eats ponies; personally, I don’t find it hard to believe, but thats besides the point. So, Josh Neal eats ponies, does he? I thought the other day. Maybe I should write a haiku about it! So I did.

JOSH :

Josh Neal eats ponies

He eats them and picks his nose

But not all at once

Yeah, like I said, it wasn’t the best, but thats not the point, the point is that haiku(s?) are truly amazing. They can be about anything or everything or nothing at all or even about Josh Neal eating ponies! I think they are fascinating and I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted on my new haiku obsession!

I’ve Held My Tounge Long Enough

I wanted to clarify my opinion on the new Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince. It Sucked. The worst HP film to date (in terms of following the books). It was so bad Im curious to see how the next two are going to work, which, on the subject, they dont even need to make 2 films because they are only doing it to fit everything in, but they took out all that they need to include—————ANGER!

But, predictably, I loved it regardless of its Oh-so-apparent flaws, what can I say, its Harry Potter!

Age Gap Concerns

Whilst a passenger in my 70-year young Grandmother and 80 something Grandfather’s aged Camery, you tend to have interesting stories.

They were driving my sister and me to my father’s house one Summer afternoon. The air was on, the windows down just like Grandma likes it. Nothing was unusual until she decided to take her knowing eyes off my Grandad and on the radio. Well, that wasn’t unusual, she likes to hear what Glen Beck or Sean Hannity has to say every once in a while (too often for my taste, but you know how that goes), but instead of tuning the radio to a conservative AM station, she settles for the local popular music channel 100.5 w-kee, the teenagers go-to. What possessed her to do this I have never pondered much, I assume she was at our house and the pounding of a too-much too-heavy bass drifted to the kitchen where she takes solace in our eclectic and modern home.

There was an old Green Day song, then a Kelly Clarkson single, a few Miley Cyrus’ hits and we were almost home…then the single worst song that could be played in front of your conservative grandparents- Don’t Trust Me by 3OH!3.

The song has a great beat and really isn’t that “bad”, its just very, er….politically incorrect. The bridge of the song goes something like “Shush, Girl, Shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips” this repeats very clearly about 3 times. By the second, Grandmother was staring at Grandad in a sort of mystified wonder, her eyes asking the question what in the world is this garbage.

My friend Ryan (who is about as politically incorrect as the song) always says that during every awkward silence a gay baby is born, well if that’s true, the next generation may be completely homosexual after that.
